From Early College to NECC
What are my options for staying at NECC?
The confidence and skills students develop in Early College provides a strong foundation for future success at NECC. With over 60 associate degrees and certificates in areas such as health professions, liberal arts, STEM, and business and professional studies, NECC offers the programs to help students pursue their goals, and many Early College students ultimately decide to make the transition from Early College to matriculated students at NECC!
Because Early College students have already experienced college-level coursework, they’re uniquely prepared to thrive here and build on the momentum they’ve already created throughout Early College. With dedicated faculty, flexible programs, ongoing supports, and clear pathways to transfer to four-year institutions or move directly into a career, transitioning to NECC after your Early College experience allows you to seamlessly transition continue moving forward.
To help you get started, here’s a simple checklist of next steps to help you transition from EC to NECC:
- Apply to Northern Essex Community College by completing the Early College-NECC Transition Form (PDF) (please send completed form to PK12@necc.mass.edu or enrollmentservices@necc.mass.edu)
- Complete the FAFSA or other financial aid applications
- Meet with an academic advisor to plan your course schedule
- Submit your official high school transcript after graduation
Are there any special programs for students who complete the Early College Program?
EC Students may be eligible for other financial opportunities, including the Promise Program.
What is the Promise Scholarship Program?
NECC’s Early College Promise Scholarship allows students from designated Early College programs to continue their education at NECC for free.
Who is Eligible?
Eligible students must:
- Have completed a Lawrence High School, Haverhill High School, Triton Regional High School, Newburyport High School, Amesbury High School, Pentucket High School, or Ipswich High School Early College Program
- Earned 12 NECC credits while in Early College
- Have a NECC GPA of a 2.5 or above
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and/or MAFSA
- Have not previously completed a college degree
How long can I receive the scholarship?
Once in the program students can stay in the scholarship until they complete their degree or hit a credit total of 75.
