SUMMARY:Wangeci Gitau: immigrant queer African femme
DESCRIPTION:Wangeci Gitau\nKenyan-born writer\, activist\, and educator from the Gikūyū tribe\, Wangeci Gitau (she/they)\, will be sharing her experiences and insights on navigating life as an immigrant\, queer African femme in the global west. \nLiving by Audre Lorde’s powerful words\, “Your silence will not protect you\,” Wangeci’s work spans themes of identity\, resilience\, and self-expression. She is the author of two poetry collections—“there’s the truth then there are other things”(2019) and “I’m not allowed to explain (only foreshadow and reminisce)”(2021)—and was recently featured on “Stories from the Stage” (PBS)\, where she discussed her experience during the 2018 Merrimack Valley gas explosions. \nWangeci is also the co-founder and prose editor at Exposed Brick Literary Magazine and a former public school teacher\, with a Master’s in Literary Arts from Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English. She resides in Lawrence\, MA and is currently working on her first novel. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to hear Wangeci’s powerful story and unique perspective! \nLight snacks will be served. \n Print View
