Haverhill Campus to Receive New Interior Lighting

Thanks to a partnership with National Grid, all interior lights on the Haverhill Campus will be replaced this fall with energy efficient LED lights.

National Grid will cover 45% of the cost of the project, which will total more than one million dollars, and the college will be responsible for the rest.  Northern Essex expects to cover their costs within three-and-a-half years with the resulting energy savings, said David Gingerella, the college’s vice president of administration and finance.

“This is a win-win for the college,” he said.  “We’re reducing our costs, building a more sustainable campus, and improving the light quality in our buildings.”

Most of the current interior lighting was installed when the campus was built in 1971.

To minimalize the disruption, National Grid workers will replace the fixtures Monday through Thursday from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The college’s exterior lighting was upgraded two years ago as part of an energy savings initiative.
