Professor Elle Yarborough has been at Northern Essex for 15 years, serving in various roles during that time, including chair of the English Department, co-chair of the Core Academic Skills Committee, and director of the annual Peace Poetry contest. Dean of Liberal Arts Amy Callahan noted: “Anyone who has worked with Elle Yarborough understands the extraordinary gift that she has in bringing out the best work in her students and conveying her enthusiasm for their success.”

Program Coordinator Dawn Wheaton is a familiar face on NECC’s Lawrence Campus, serving in many roles stemming from her expertise in medical billing and coding. Wheaton joined Northern Essex 14 years ago and has served as a vital connection for students and career opportunities in health care fields. “Through her commitment to innovation, continuous improvement, strengthening our curriculum and many of our health programs, she enhances students’ engagement, and she’s able to connect these students to learning 2 future careers, especially for us in health care,” said Dean of Health Professions Kathy Hudson.

Since 1978, NISOD has been dedicated to the professional development of faculty, administrators, and staff, and the continued improvement of teaching and learning, with the ultimate goal of student success. NISOD’s Excellence Awards recognize college employees each year who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment and contribution to students and colleagues. Excellence Award recipients are recognized during NISOD’s annual international conference, which will be held in Austin, Texas, May 23-26.
