i came into college for computer science, learned it wasn’t for me, and found marketing instead. and that’s okay. what you come in for might not be what you graduate for! 🤍
as a first-gen student you definitely feel the pressure to pick the “right” path. but college is where you try things and find what actually makes you happy. i couldn’t imagine going anywhere else 💫

First Generation College Celebration is celebrated annually on November 8 to commemorate the signing of the Higher Education Act (“HEA”) of 1965 by then-President Lyndon B. Johnson. This act created federal financial aid programs to fund students’ educations and made key investments in colleges and universities. Many of the HEA’s programs, particularly the Federal TRIO programs (like our very own @PACEprogram) , promote postsecondary access, retention, and completion for today’s limited-income, first-generation college students.

Yesterday, NECC and Merrimack Health, along with dozens of community leaders, cut the ribbon on the space that will train the next generation of surgical technologists.
Our new Surgical Technology Associate Degree is the college’s first degree in the apprenticeship model. Students learn in the classroom and in a working hospital, and they earn both wages and college credit along the way. Graduates will be eligible to sit for the Massachusetts certification exam required for employment as a surgical technologist.
Surgical technologists support surgeons and the whole care team before, during, and after procedures. The Commonwealth needs more of them, and this program builds that local pipeline.
Our first cohort started this fall. This is just the beginning of what education, healthcare, and community partners can build together 💫
