I first walked through LHC`s doors in 2023 as a collections assistant during an internship while finishing my bachelor`s at @umasslowell (shoutout MassTransfer 👋).
I got hands-on archival experience with the scrapbook collection and helped with the "Somos Latinos" exhibit! Fast forward to fall 2025, and I was completely surprised and SO excited to be asked to join LHC`s Board of Directors.
A little history: LHC started in 1978 as the "Immigrant City Archives," founded by Eartha Dengler, who began by collecting the stories of women at the local YWCA. Today the archive holds 40,000+ photos, 800+ oral histories, and the records that built this city — housed in the former Essex Company yard at 6 Essex Street.
This time around, I got to dig into material on NECC`s own history in Lawrence. Every item in that archive — a clipping, a letter, a medal — is a piece of someone`s story, and that`s what makes this place so special.
LHC is one of the coolest hidden gems in Lawrence, and it`s just steps from our Lawrence Campus 💙
