(MAN Inc.) and Debbie\u2019s Treasure Chest. This week, they visited the college&#8217;s Haverhill and Lawrence campuses, meeting with leaders and seeing first-hand the opportunities available so close to home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want our young people to know about the educational opportunities available to them,\u201d said Linda Soucy, founder of MAN, Inc. \u201cThere are so many resources right in our own backyard, and Northern Essex tops the list.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_29346\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/Man-Inc-visit-3-scaled.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29346\" class=\" wp-image-29346\" src=\"http:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2026\/02\/Man-Inc-visit-3-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"president glenn addresses group of students\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-29346\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">NECC President Lane Glenn met with visiting students<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Soucy explained that the group, which is made up of 14 and 15-year-olds, has been participating in MassHire\u2019s Career Curriculum Summer Youth Program. Part of this program includes visits to community sites, meetings with officials, and learning about local resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether it\u2019s through <a href=\"https:\/\/necc.edu\/admissions\/tuition\/free-community-college-is-here\/\">Massachusetts\u2019 free community college program<\/a>, or our convenient locations in Lawrence and Haverhill, I appreciate the partnership of MAN, Inc. and Debbie\u2019s Treasure Chest in communicating the accessibility of higher education in the Merrimack Valley,\u201d said NECC President Lane Glenn.<\/p>\n<p>Recognizing that many young people in the community have never stepped on a college campus, organizers wanted to give students a real look at a local institution. The group kicked off the day by touring NECC\u2019s Lawrence campus, meeting with Dean of Health Sciences Kathy Hudson, and hearing from Vice President of Lawrence Campus &amp; Community Relations Naydeen Gonzalez De-Jesus.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_29345\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/Man-Inc-visit-2-scaled.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29345\" class=\" wp-image-29345\" src=\"http:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2026\/02\/Man-Inc-visit-2-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-29345\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">NECC Vice President of the Lawrence Campus Naydeen Gonz\u00e1lez De-J\u00e9sus speaks with visiting students.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt takes a village to increase college attainment, and today\u2019s engagement, in which our deans, faculty, and staff came together with community partners, helps to build a bridge that connects young minds to the possibility of a better future through education,\u201d said Gonz\u00e1lez De-J\u00e9sus.<\/p>\n<p>Following their visit to Lawrence, the group travelled to the NECC&#8217;s Haverhill Campus for a tour. While there, they met with President Glenn, Director of Athletics Dan Blair, and Lawrence City Councilor Vivian Marmol \u201907, a NECC alumna.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo matter where you come from or what challenges you face, Northern Essex isn\u2019t just a place about learning,\u201d said Marmol. \u201cIt\u2019s about discovering your power, your purpose, and your place in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marmol spoke about how NECC changed her life, including how courses in public speaking helped instill a confidence that allowed her to eventually run for office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was exciting to have these students see the varied possibilities, facilities, and programs all available through Northern Essex,\u201d said Linda Harvey of Debbie\u2019s Treasure Chest. \u201cWhat\u2019s more, they heard first-hand how education can change lives, and they left inspired.
