The Northern Essex Community College Theater production has just won ten national awards from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kennedy-center.org\/education\/opportunities-for-artists\/pre-professional-artist-training\/kcactf\/\">Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival<\/a> (KCACTF).<\/p>\n<p>Honors include:<\/p>\n<p>The Citizen&#8217;s Award<br \/>\nOutstanding Achievement in Performance: Mirrorajah Metcalfe, Liberal Arts: Writing Major, Haverhill<br \/>\nDistinguished Achievement in Dramaturgy: Jessica Newey, &#8217;23, Middleboro<br \/>\nOutstanding Achievement in Ensemble Performance<br \/>\nDistinguished Achievement in Performance: Gwynnethe Glickman, &#8217;22, Newbury<br \/>\nDistinguished Achievement in Performance: Olivia Barberian, &#8217;23, Candia, NH<br \/>\nDistinguished Achievement in Direction of a Play: Brianne Beatrice, NECC Professor<br \/>\nSpecial Achievement in Production of a Play<br \/>\nOutstanding Achievement in the Facilitation of a Brave Rehearsal Space<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_27915\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2026\/02\/IMG_9395.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27915\" class=\" wp-image-27915\" src=\"http:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2026\/02\/IMG_9395.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-27915\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hurricane Diane cast<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This news is the latest in a whirlwind for <em>Hurricane Diane<\/em>. The production was first staged on the NECC Haverhill Campus in the spring of 2023. Then, representatives from the KCACTF selected the production as a finalist for the <a href=\"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/2024\/01\/23\/hurricane-diane-named-finalist-for-the-kennedy-center-american-college-theater-festival\/\">Region 1 Festival<\/a>. Beatrice and the cast and crew got that news just before the holiday break at the end of 2023 and quickly reassembled to have the play ready to be remounted at the regional festival at the end of January.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s crazy our work is being honored like this. They\u2019re looking for good art, and our art is being recognized,\u201d said Beatrice.<\/p>\n<p>Beatrice will travel to Washington, D.C., later this month to accept the awards at the Kennedy Center.<\/p>\n<p>Northern Essex offers a variety of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/necc.smartcatalogiq.com\/2022-2023-updated\/catalog\/courses\/the-theater\/?_ga=2.116911694.958058795.1712848627-159467905.1681397499\">theater and acting courses<\/a>. Additionally, they stage several full productions and readings throughout the year. Anyone interested in learning more about NECC Theater or the audition process should email Professor Beatrice at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:bbeatrice@necc.mass.edu\">bbeatrice@necc.mass.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kennedy-center.org\/education\/opportunities-for-artists\/pre-professional-artist-training\/kcactf\/\">The KCACTF<\/a> is a national theater program involving 18,000 students from colleges and universities nationwide, which has served as a catalyst for improving the quality of college theater in the United States.
