{"id":23155,"date":"2023-06-14T16:53:53","date_gmt":"2023-06-14T20:53:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/2023\/06\/14\/national-recognition-for-necc-athletics\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T11:32:38","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T15:32:38","slug":"national-recognition-for-necc-athletics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/06\/14\/national-recognition-for-necc-athletics\/","title":{"rendered":"National Recognition for NECC Athletics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Haverhill, MA (June 14, 2023) \u2013 Strong showings from Northern Essex Community College athletic teams have earned the program its first-ever top 30 ranking from the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_26813\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2026\/02\/KnightsTeamPhoto-1.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26813\" class=\" wp-image-26813\" src=\"http:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2026\/02\/KnightsTeamPhoto-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-26813\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The NECC Knights at the NCJAA World Series in Greeneville, Tennessee<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Each year, NATYCAA ranks two-year schools based on athletic teams&#8217; post-season performances. The highest-ranking school is awarded the Daktronics Cup.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.neccknights.com\/landing\/index\">The Knights<\/a> finished in a tie for 28th place in the non-scholarship category with Minnesota State Community &amp; Technical College with 34 points. Points are awarded based on team finish at the conclusion of each sport&#8217;s national tournament. NECC was awarded 16 points for their 5th place finish in men\u2019s basketball and 18 points for their 3rd place finish in baseball.<\/p>\n<p>NECC was the only New England community college to finish among the top 30 programs. The College of DuPage (IL) captured the 2023 cup with a total of 158 points.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_26837\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2026\/02\/IMG_6517.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26837\" class=\" wp-image-26837\" src=\"http:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2026\/02\/IMG_6517.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"189\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-26837\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The 2022\/23 NECC Men&#8217;s Basketball Team<\/p><\/div>\n<p>NATYCAA is administered by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). NECC Athletics Director Dan Blair serves as a District 1 officer on the NACDA Board.<\/p>\n<p><em>Northern Essex Community College competes as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and sponsors 13 varsity intercollegiate sports.
