The pARTners show is designed to celebrate the connections between Northern Essex Community College and UMASS Lowell. At least six professors from each school are contributing artworks.<a href=\"http:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2026\/02\/partners-flier_anotated.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-24912\" src=\"http:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2026\/02\/partners-flier_anotated.jpg\" alt=\"side by side works of art, one of a woman sitting reading a book. the other is an abstract featuring circles and lines in earth tones\" width=\"352\" height=\"309\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When our students transfer, they most often continue at UML,&#8221; says Michelle Carter, associate professor of Art and Design at NECC. &#8220;The two programs have a strong relationship, including similar teaching philosophies, friendships, and collaborations. I hope this will be a great way for our students to learn about the professors they can work with now and in the future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When the pandemic started, the ArtSpace shifted to hosting online exhibitions. Once students returned to campus, they included smaller, pop-up style exhibits led by NECC classes.<\/p>\n<p>An opening reception for the pARTners show will be Wednesday, March 2 from 4-5pm. Masks are required. The show will remain open through March 31st, during library hours. The public is welcome and admission is free.<\/p>\n<p>The Linda Hummel-Shea ArtSpace Gallery is located in the Bentley Library Building on NECC\u2019s Haverhill Campus.<\/p>\n<p>Northern Essex\u2019s Department of Art &amp; Design offers many courses in fine art and design leading to an <a href=\"https:\/\/necc.edu\/learn\/credit-programs\/art\/\">Associate Degree in General Studies: Art &amp; Design<\/a>. For more information, contact Michelle Carter at mcarter@necc.mass.edu.<\/p>\n<h2>About the Artists and Artworks<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Bonnie Ashmore (NECC)<\/strong><br \/>\nAshmore\u2019s balanced geometric painting \u201cAt Last\u201d emits a warm glow. It\u2019s representative of her ongoing exploration of painting as a method of meditation and healing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michelle Carter (NECC)<\/strong><br \/>\nCarter\u2019s painting process alternates between direct observation from landscape and abstractions in the studio. Her oil painting <em>Plunge<\/em> is based on a small collage and relates to her interest in movement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingrid Hess (UML)<\/strong><br \/>\nHess\u2019 five-panel graphic design project, created with both digital tools and hands-on collage, is a spirited alphabet for kids about Australian ecosystems. An author and illustrator of children\u2019s books, Hess fosters learning and appreciation for diversity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Andree Leduc (NECC)<\/strong><br \/>\nLeduc\u2019s installation of small works on paper is part of an ambitious project that includes hundreds of artworks. Each piece is akin to a puzzle that she \u201csolves\u201d by experimenting with color, shape, mark-making, and different media.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarah Lubin (UML)<\/strong><br \/>\nIn \u201cNoon (Study)\u201d, by Sarah Lubin, a dark shape beneath a seated figure alternately reads as a shadow, a void, or a flat shape. Multiple readings lend a sense of mystery her work, in which figures both blend into and emerge from backgrounds, and color harmonies evoke emotional states.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marc Mannheimer (NECC)<\/strong><br \/>\nMannheimer\u2019s \u201cLamp for the Path to Enlightenment: Hail\u201d is part of a series about the ten plagues of Egypt from The Old Testament. It blends painting and sculpture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brian Martin (NECC)<\/strong><br \/>\nLight and space are key players in Martin\u2019s carefully observed oil paintings. A brilliantly lit sky or an empty interior conjures a specific mood, place, or time of day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stephen Mishol (UML)<\/strong><br \/>\nMishol\u2019s meticulous drawings of cityscapes blend different methods of working \u2013 observation, memory, and invention. Familiar imagery is presented in subtly surprising ways.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yuko Oda (UML)<\/strong><br \/>\nOda\u2019s animation pieces combine traditional methods of drawing and sculpture with unexpected materials and with digital animation. Natural forms and biological systems are recurring sources of inspiration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dianne Pappas (NECC)<\/strong><br \/>\nThe vulnerable or imperfect are often at the conceptual heart of Pappas\u2019 playful sculptures and installations. Utilitarian materials combine with experimental processes and result in quietly provocative artworks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Samnang Riebe (UML)<\/strong><br \/>\nRiebe\u2019s paintings and assemblages alternately read as imagined spaces and literal physical objects with their own sense of history. His piece in \u201cpARTners\u201d combines a found three-dimensional object with abstract painting. Protruding from the wall, its elaborate shadows interact with its physical components.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pavel Romaniko (UML)<\/strong><br \/>\nUntitled (Kitchen) is from a series of haunting pieces in which Romaniko constructs convincing interior spaces out of paper and photographs them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deborah Santoro (UML)<\/strong><br \/>\nSantoro examines damages wrought by colonial histories. Her work in \u201cpARTners\u201d combines interests in environmentalism, science fiction, and needlepoint.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ellen Wetmore (UML)<\/strong><br \/>\nWetmore\u2019s piece is from a series of drawings called \u201cThe Grotesques\u201d and is reminiscent of Surrealism.
