Those grants include $75,000 each to Haverhill and Lawrence High Schools to expand upon the existing partnerships with Northern Essex.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_25031\" style=\"width: 213px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2026\/02\/50379902477_1e6dc0c7e4_k.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25031\" class=\"wp-image-25031\" src=\"http:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2026\/02\/50379902477_1e6dc0c7e4_k.jpg\" alt=\"two students in NECC sweatshirts in a classroom\" width=\"203\" height=\"303\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-25031\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Former Early College students Nicole Affannato and Gladdys Jiminian enrolled at NECC after high school<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Luisanna Crespo, Assistant Director for PK-12 and International Programs at NECC, says that her office is currently working with both schools to determine how the best utilize the funding. \u201cThe idea is to reach more students and to implement more supports for our current Early College students to increase success rates for them,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>NECC is one of 19 colleges and universities participating in the statewide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.edu\/strategic\/earlycollege.asp\">Massachusetts Early College Initiative<\/a>, which partners high schools with colleges and universities for designated programs between them. NECC has designated programs with Haverhill High School, Lawrence High School, and Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School.<\/p>\n<p>Students from these designated programs earn college credits for free while they\u2019re still in high school. Plus, the classes count toward both students\u2019 high school graduation requirements and their future college degrees. Most students spend the morning at their high school and travel to the college campus by bus for afternoon college-level courses.<\/p>\n<p>In all, nearly 700 local students are enrolled in Early College at Northern Essex, from more than 20 high schools.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/news\/baker-polito-administration-announces-new-early-college-programs-and-awards-more-than-13-million-in-grants\">press release<\/a> about the newly announced grants, Lt.
