Eddie S. Glaude Jr, chair of the African American Studies Department at Princeton University<\/p><\/div>\n

Eddie S. Glaude Jr., chair of the African American Studies Department at Princeton University, will deliver a virtual White Fund Lecture presentation titled \u201cThe Ethics of Anti-Racism\u201d on Wednesday, May 5 at 6:30 pm,<\/p>\n

Free and open to the public, with pre-registration<\/a> required, his presentation will deconstruct the idea of whiteness and the way in which it determines the distribution of advantage and disadvantage in this country. The White Fund Lecture Series is a partnership with Northern Essex Community College.<\/p>\n

An author, political commentator, public intellectual, and passionate educator, Glaude calls on his audiences to engage in an ongoing critique of racism\u2019s manifestations, challenging people to think more carefully and systematically about racial issues.<\/p>\n

Glaude\u2019s writings include \u201cDemocracy in Black: How Race Still Enslaves the American Soul, \u201cIn a Shade of Blue: Pragmatism and the Politics of Black America\u201d, and his most recent, the New York Times bestseller, \u201cBegin Again: James Baldwin\u2019s America and Its Urgent Lessons for our Own\u201d, which takes a wide look at Black communities, the difficulties of race in the United States and the challenges we face as a democracy.<\/p>\n

In his writing and speaking, Glaude is an American critic in the tradition of James Baldwin and Ralph Waldo Emerson, confronting history and bringing our nation\u2019s complexities, vulnerabilities and hope into full view.<\/p>\n

Glaude is the James S. McDonnell distinguished university professor and chair of the Department of African American Studies at Princeton. He frequently appears in the media, as a columnist for TIME Magazine and as an MSNBC contributor on programs like \u201cMorning Joe\u201d and \u201cDeadline Whitehouse with Nicolle Wallace\u201d. He regularly appears on \u201cMeet the Press\u201d on Sundays. Glaude also hosts Princeton\u2019s AAS podcast, a conversation around the field of African American Studies and the Black experience in the 21st century.<\/p>\n

The White Fund\u2019s purpose is to have a free series of interactive presentations for Lawrence area adults, youth, and children. The audience is encouraged to seek wisdom, cultural enrichment, and intellectual enhancement by attending and participating.<\/p>\n

Funded by a generous financial gift from the Honorable Daniel Appleton White, the White Fund Lecture Series has provided cultural conversation featuring well-known lecturers in fields such as history, literature, travel, the arts, and politics. The White Fund is collaborating with Northern Essex on this series.<\/p>\n

Northern Essex Community College has campuses in both Haverhill and Lawrence.
