Haverhill and Lawrence, MA (November 30, 2021) Michael McCarthy of Middleton, Northern Essex Community College\u2019s chief financial officer and chief operating officer, has received the Outstanding Chief Business Officer Award from the Community College Business Officers (CCBO). The award was presented at the annual conference held in Nashville in late October.<\/p>\n

The award recognizes a chief financial officer for accomplishments, strategic planning and policy implementation that support the college mission.<\/p>\n

As a member of the President\u2019s Executive Team, McCarthy is responsible for providing leadership and oversight in the areas of finance, human resources, budgeting, strategic planning, information technology, purchasing, facilities, maintenance, safety and security, police and sheriff training academies, auxiliary services, athletics and wellness.<\/p>\n

Prior to joining NECC, McCarthy served for over 16 years at the Essex County Sheriff\u2019s Department in Middleton, Massachusetts.<\/p>\n

McCarthy was nominated for this honor by Jennifer Borislow, chair of the college\u2019s board of trustees, and Allison Dolan-Wilson, vice president of institutional advancement. They credited him with growing the college\u2019s cash reserves; implementing a new hiring process to increase the diversity of applicants for employment at Northern Essex; and providing leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

In nominating McCarthy, Trustee Chair Borislow wrote \u201cMike is extremely dedicated and a much beloved leader on the NECC campus. He is a mentor to many and is one of the first to welcome new faculty and staff to the school.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to joining NECC, Michael served for over 16 years at the Essex County Sheriff\u2019s Department in Middleton, Massachusetts.<\/p>\n

CCBO equips community college professionals with the essential knowledge, skills and collaborative opportunities to better serve their colleges. The only organization dedicated to continuing education for individuals in the community college business office, CCBO trains the next generation of chief business officers and provides current leaders with updated information on national issues facing community colleges through Leadership Academy, its flagship program.
