{"id":26892,"date":"2020-09-16T17:36:09","date_gmt":"2020-09-16T21:36:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/2020\/09\/16\/necc-announces-plans-for-spring-semester-2021\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T09:52:30","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T13:52:30","slug":"necc-announces-plans-for-spring-semester-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/2020\/09\/16\/necc-announces-plans-for-spring-semester-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"NECC Announces Plans for Spring Semester 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2013\/12\/online-image-2-newsroom.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-7652 size-full\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2013\/12\/online-image-2-newsroom.jpg\" alt=\"Many online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses are offered for the spring semester.\" width=\"375\" height=\"232\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Northern Essex Community College\u2019s Spring Semester, which begins Jan 20, 2021, will be almost fully online, according to a recent announcement by college leadership.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s likely that 90% of courses will be delivered online. Only those courses that require a face-to-face component\u2014primarily Health and STEM courses\u2014will be offered on campus.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was made based on a careful review of the best information about conditions likely to exist next spring with the COVID-19 pandemic. \u201cWe will continue to monitor those conditions carefully, and, if it is possible to offer additional courses on campus, we will do that,\u201d said Bill Heineman, vice president of academic and student affairs.<\/p>\n<p>The college transitioned to remote learning when the pandemic hit last spring. In late May, Northern Essex made the decision to offer a fall semester that was primarily online.<\/p>\n<p>The goal, according to Heineman, was to keep students and faculty safe, and prepare for minimal potential disruption.<\/p>\n<p>To facilitate the transition to online learning, the college invested <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/newsroom\/2020\/08\/03\/necc-spends-summer-transitioning-to-online-delivery\/\">$500,000 to help faculty transition 200 courses<\/a> to online delivery over the summer; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/newsroom\/2020\/08\/07\/college-creates-fund-to-help-students-meet-new-laptop-requirement\/\">created a laptop requirement<\/a> with funding available for students who needed it; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/newsroom\/2020\/07\/23\/necc-invests-in-new-support-service-for-online-learners\/\">hired a team of peer ambassadors<\/a> to help students who are new to online learning.<\/p>\n<p>Registration for the spring begins Nov 2.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s where you can learn more about the college\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/learn\/\">over\u00a060 academic programs.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s where you can find out about the college\u2019s many\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/apply\/information-sessions-tours\/\">virtual admissions events<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For additional information on enrolling this spring, contact Enrollment Services, 978 556-3700 or <a href=\"mailto:admissions@necc.mass.edu\">admissions@necc.mass.edu<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Northern Essex\u2019s Spring Semester, which begins Jan 22, 2021, will be almost fully online.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":27,"featured_media":26894,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[10],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-26892","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-archive"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.2 -
