{"id":26922,"date":"2020-10-27T21:58:23","date_gmt":"2020-10-28T01:58:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/2020\/10\/28\/neccs-new-student-trustee-is-a-stem-major\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T09:53:03","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T13:53:03","slug":"neccs-new-student-trustee-is-a-stem-major","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/2020\/10\/27\/neccs-new-student-trustee-is-a-stem-major\/","title":{"rendered":"NECC\u2019s New Student Trustee is a STEM major"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_23369\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2020\/10\/Tim-Dodier-preferred.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23369\" class=\"wp-image-23369 size-medium\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2020\/10\/Tim-Dodier-preferred-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"portrait of young man wearing blue sport coat.\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-23369\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tim Dodier, NECC&#8217;s new student trustee<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Timothy Dodier, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/learn\/credit-programs\/science\/chemistry-physics-environmental-science\/\">physics<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/learn\/credit-programs\/technology-and-engineering\/engineering\/\">engineering major<\/a>, who graduated from Salem (NH) High School in 2016, is the new student-elected representative on the Northern Essex Community College Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n<p>Now living in Hampstead, NH, Dodier works full time at Resonetics in Nashua, NH to support himself while in college, but juggling work with his studies hasn\u2019t stopped him from getting actively involved on campus. He was a member of the college\u2019s basketball team last year; participates in the National Society of Leadership and Success, a student leadership program; is involved in the Student Government Association; and is a part of the PACE Program, a federal student support services program.<\/p>\n<p>Dodier has excelled academically, maintaining a 3.6 GPA. He is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.<\/p>\n<p>In what may be an understatement, Dodier says he \u201clikes to stay busy\u201d. \u201cBalance is not as hard when you enjoy what you are doing. I have also learned to budget and plan my time,\u201d he explains.<\/p>\n<p>He is planning to graduate in the spring of 2022 and will transfer to a four-year college or university.<\/p>\n<p>As a member of the board of trustees, Dodier hopes \u201cto help make sure student voices are heard.\u201d He also wants to \u201chelp students and the college get through these strange times that COVID-19 has brought upon us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/discover\/leadership\/board-of-trustees\/\">NECC\u00a0Board of Trustees<\/a>\u00a0includes nine members who are appointed by the governor of the state to a maximum of two five-year terms as well as an alumni-elected member, who also serves a maximum of ten years, and a student trustee who serves for two semesters. The SGA works to enhance communication and cooperation between students and the rest of the campus community.
