{"id":26929,"date":"2020-10-30T19:17:51","date_gmt":"2020-10-30T23:17:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/2020\/10\/30\/nosmallmatter\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T09:53:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T13:53:10","slug":"nosmallmatter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/2020\/10\/30\/nosmallmatter\/","title":{"rendered":"NECC Hosts Screening of \u201cNo Small Matter\u201d, Documentary on Early Childhood Education in the U.S."},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_23403\" style=\"width: 224px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2020\/10\/no-small-matter.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23403\" class=\"wp-image-23403 size-medium\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2020\/10\/no-small-matter-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"Four babies are sitting on a cut out map of the United States.\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-23403\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">NECC will host a free screening of a documentary on the state of early childhood education on Nov. 12.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Anyone interested in the state of early childhood education in our country, including educators, parents, and grandparents, is invited to join Northern Essex Community College for a free virtual screening of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nosmallmatter.com\/\">\u201cNo Small Matter\u201d<\/a>, the first feature documentary to explore this topic, on Thursday evening, Nov. 12, 2020 at 6 pm.<\/p>\n<p>Following the 74-minute film, there will be a panel discussion featuring Samantha Aigner-Treworgy, commissioner, MA Department of Early Education and Care; Dr. Winifred Hagan, senior associate commissioner for strategic planning and public program approval, MA Department of Higher Education; Dr. Martha McNulty, director, child care services at Partners Healthcare; and Dr. Lane Glenn, president, Northern Essex Community College.<\/p>\n<p>The event will also include recognition of Gail Feigenbaum, the longtime coordinator of Northern Essex\u2019s Early Childhood Education Program, who recently retired.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/4dzAxcw4bbYh9MMC9\">Registration<\/a> is required.<\/p>\n<p>The film shares real stories from children, families and teachers, illustrating the impact of high-quality early childhood experiences.<\/p>\n<p>It also gives a scientific perspective, including information from scientists, physicians, and early childhood education experts that will help viewers understand how a young child\u2019s mind develops.<\/p>\n<p>This event is sponsored by Northern Essex Community College\u2019s Career Pathways in Early Childhood Education.<\/p>\n<p>Northern Essex has academic programs that prepare students for careers as early childhood educators, elementary education teachers, and middle or high school teachers.\u00a0 To learn more, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/learn\/credit-programs\/education\/\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you have questions about the event please contact Dr. Doris Buckley, Director of Early Childhood Career Pathways at Northern Essex Community College:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:dbuckley@necc.mass.edu\">dbuckley@necc.mass.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Northern Essex Community College has campuses in both Haverhill and Lawrence.
