{"id":27105,"date":"2019-02-28T16:15:07","date_gmt":"2019-02-28T21:15:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/2019\/02\/28\/necc-creates-new-award-to-honor-stem-student-achievers\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T14:11:50","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T18:11:50","slug":"necc-creates-new-award-to-honor-stem-student-achievers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/2019\/02\/28\/necc-creates-new-award-to-honor-stem-student-achievers\/","title":{"rendered":"NECC Creates New Award to Honor STEM Student Achievers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_19823\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2019\/02\/image001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19823\" class=\"wp-image-19823 size-medium\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2019\/02\/image001-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-19823\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Three NECC Students receive the Knights of the STEM Table Award (L to R) Anglea Reppucci-Mathieu of Methuen, Robert Moeller of Andover, and Aranxa Pena-Mendez of Lawrence.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Three high-achieving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\">Northern Essex Community College<\/a> STEM students recently became the first to receive the Knights of the STEM Table Award, recognizing academic achievements in the face of obstacles.<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural group included Angela Reppucci-Mathieu of Methuen, an<a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/learn\/credit-programs\/science\/chemistry-physics-environmental-science\/\"> environmental science major<\/a>; Robert Moeller of Andover, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/learn\/credit-programs\/technology-and-engineering\/\">electrical engineering major<\/a>; and Aranxa Pena-Mendez of Lawrence, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/learn\/credit-programs\/computer-information-science\/\">computer information science<\/a> major.<\/p>\n<p>Three students will be selected for the honor each semester, based on nominations from faculty.\u00a0 Students receive a certificate presented by Northern Essex President Lane Glenn at an event held in the STEM Center.<\/p>\n<p>Moeller plans to transfer to UMass Lowell to continue his education after receiving his degree from Northern Essex this spring. Based on his success, his advice to Northern Essex students is \u201cDon\u2019t skip steps!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pena-Mendez is a computer information science transfer student from Lawrence, who graduated from Northern Essex in December 2018. She hopes to one day get her bachelor\u2019s degree in her field and to complete an internship in computer science. During her time at Northern Essex Pena-Mendez was involved in activities such as the\u00a0STEM academy in 2017, and \u201cThe Pipeline from School to Industry\u201d Panel in Spring 2018. She is \u201cgrateful that my efforts have been recognized by other people,\u201d and \u201cwill continue to work hard to achieve my goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reppucci-Mathieu is a 2015 graduate of Salem High School.\u00a0 Her goal is to transfer to UMass Boston or UMass Lowell after graduating from Northern Essex and pursue a career as a field scientist.\u00a0 She is applying to internships for this summer.\u00a0 Reppucci-Mathieu says \u201cI am happy to see my hard work paying off and I\u2019m looking forward to continue working towards my future career in STEM.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about STEM Programs offered at Northern Essex, visit the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/learn\/innovative-programs\/stem-programs\/\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three high-achieving Northern Essex Community College STEM students recently became the first to receive the Knights of the STEM Table Award, recognizing academic achievements in the face of obstacles.
