{"id":27414,"date":"2019-09-17T19:29:17","date_gmt":"2019-09-17T23:29:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/2019\/09\/17\/necc-names-manager-of-culinary-and-hospitality-programs\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T14:18:25","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T18:18:25","slug":"necc-names-manager-of-culinary-and-hospitality-programs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/2019\/09\/17\/necc-names-manager-of-culinary-and-hospitality-programs\/","title":{"rendered":"NECC Names Manager of Culinary and Hospitality Programs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_21284\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2019\/09\/Denis-Boucher-facebook.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21284\" class=\"wp-image-21284 size-medium\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2019\/09\/Denis-Boucher-facebook-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Denis Boucher in a chef's coat\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-21284\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Denis Boucher is the newly appointed program manager of NECC&#8217;s culinary and hospitality programs<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As the newly appointed program manager of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\">Northern Essex Community College<\/a>\u2019s culinary and hospitality programs, Denis Boucher is very interested in the progress being made on \u201cThe Heights\u201d, a 10-story luxury building under construction on Merrimack St. in downtown Haverhill.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because The Heights will include two floors dedicated to Northern Essex\u2019s culinary and hospitality programs, and Boucher has been hired to monitor the construction as well as build noncredit and credit programs in these two growing fields.<\/p>\n<p>The college currently offers an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/learn\/credit-programs\/business\/business-management-hospitality\/\">Associate of Science in Hospitality Management<\/a>\u00a0and is planning to offer a Culinary Arts Certificate Program, likely by the fall of 2020.<\/p>\n<p>With extensive experience as a chef, restaurant manager, and culinary educator, Boucher is well qualified for the responsibilities of his new role.<\/p>\n<p>As director of Tompkins Cortland Community College\u2019s Coltivare in Ithaca, NY, he oversaw a similar project, successfully developing a sustainable culinary lab, restaurant, and event space.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDenis\u2019s background makes him uniquely qualified for this position,\u201d said Lane Glenn, president of Northern Essex.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019ve been to Coltivare and I was so impressed.\u00a0 I can\u2019t wait to see what he can do in downtown Haverhill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The college\u2019s two floors will include classrooms, laboratories, and a teaching kitchen where credit courses and noncredit courses will be taught.\u00a0 While the college won\u2019t run its own restaurant, it will work closely with the full-service restaurant that will be located on the first floor of the building.<\/p>\n<p>Born and raised in southern Maine, Boucher earned an associate degree from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, and a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management from Florida International University in Miami.<\/p>\n<p>He spent 20-plus years as a chef and restaurant manager in Atlanta, Colorado, Miami, North Carolina, Maine, and Antarctica, where he served as a chef at the South Pole and Palmer scientific research stations.\u00a0 He taught at the New England Culinary Institute (NECI) in Montpelier Vermont from 2005 to 2014, receiving \u201cTeacher of the Year\u201d in 2006, and managed the institute\u2019s restaurant for some of that time.<\/p>\n<p>While his focus is now management and teaching, Boucher still enjoys cooking for family and friends, especially during the holidays.\u00a0 \u201cI love the farm to table and sustainability movement,\u201d he says. \u201cI love visiting farmers markets, like the one in downtown Haverhill, and picking up everything that\u2019s fresh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To learn more, contact Boucher at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:dboucher@necc.mass.edu\">dboucher@necc.mass.edu<\/a>\u00a0or 978 556-3201.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Northern Essex Community College has campuses in both Haverhill and Lawrence.
