Northern Essex Community College will celebrate the 20th anniversary of College for Kids<\/a> this summer. It is marking the milestone by merging with the NECC\u2019s fledgling \u00a0STEM Academy and returning to the Haverhill campus, 100 Elliott St.<\/p>\n

This four-week summer program for students in grades 2 through 10, places an emphasis on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) as well as the arts, and physical activity. Launched 20 years ago, College for Kids has provided area students from Massachusetts and New Hampshire with an opportunity to engage in active and academic courses during the summer.<\/p>\n

Starting in July, NECC will host students on a weekly basis on the Haverhill campus. From July 9th to August 3rd, there will be three, daily sessions that run two hours each from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n

There are three age divisions: juniors \u2013 seven to 10-year olds; seniors – 10 to 13-year-olds and STEM Academy students – 13 to 16-year-olds. Each age level will be separated in order to offer age appropriate courses to students.<\/p>\n

The classes each offer 10 hours of activity time over the course of the week and fall into two different categories Art and Adventure or Academic\/STEM. Topics may include nature photography, clay sculpture, forensic science, and projectile physics. The summer 2018 schedule is still being finalized and will be posted to the College for Kids website<\/a>.<\/p>\n
