Nine members of the Northern Essex Community College<\/a> Beta Omicron chapter of the Alpha Beta Gamma International Business Honor Society were recognized with honors on Wednesday, April 25, during the college\u2019s 31st annual induction and awards ceremony.<\/p>\n

The awards, many of which were distributed during the National Meeting of Alpha Beta Gamma, highlighted outstanding achievement.<\/p>\n

Among those honored at this year\u2019s ceremony was former Beta Omicron Chapter President Winfield Field of North Reading, who received the Hausman Siegel Distinguished Award for exceptional chapter leadership. Field has been praised for his longstanding commitment to ABG activities.<\/p>\n

Seven Beta Omicron members earned essay awards this year. They included were Timothy Miles of Salisbury, who received the Cornelia Blackwell Memorial Essay Award for his paper \u201cThe Importance of Teaching\u201d; Sheri Carter of Methuen, who received the Dr. Mary Bone Essay Award for \u201cWhat Alpha Beta Gamma Means to Me\u201d; Heather Thomas of Merrimac, who earned the Keith Ulich Award for \u201cLiving Life to the Fullest\u201d; Alyssa Pike of Salisbury who earned the Francis Cunningham Esq. Memorial Competitive Essay Award for \u201cEthics in Business\u201d; Annabel Dryden of Haverhill, who won the Steve Perri Memorial Essay Award for \u201cThe Pros and Cons of Being an Entrepreneur\u201d; \u00a0Alora Mann of Haverhill, \u00a0who won the Sophia Abeles Essay Award for \u201cLearning\u201d; and Joelvi Gonzalez of Lawrence, who received the Don Christesen Memorial Essay Award for \u201cWork for Yourself \u2013 Don\u2019t Have a Boss.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Eva Bobrow Medallion Award, which recognizes a chapter member who has made significant societal contributions, was given to Nidia Davila Ramirez of Lawrence. A second merit honor, the Muller & Norton Outstanding Leadership Award, was distributed to Outgoing Chapter President Timothy Miles for his exemplary leadership and devotion.<\/p>\n

Also honored this year was the Beta Omicron chapter itself, which took home the Brooks College Golden Key Award for outstanding two-year college chapters of the Alpha Beta Gamma Business Honor Society. Beta Omicron was lauded for its excellence in the areas of community service, campus service, recruitment, and financial management. The chapter has won over 88 national awards since its inception.<\/p>\n

Alpha Beta Gamma is an international honor society that recognizes and encourages scholarship among students of two-year business and professional colleges. Members of NECC\u2019s local chapter must maintain a cumulative 3.0 minimum grade point average and exude strong moral and academic character.<\/p>\n
