{"id":28100,"date":"2018-11-19T20:28:41","date_gmt":"2018-11-20T01:28:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/2018\/11\/20\/necc-co-hosts-event-to-eliminate-violence-against-women\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T16:27:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T20:27:07","slug":"necc-co-hosts-event-to-eliminate-violence-against-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/2018\/11\/19\/necc-co-hosts-event-to-eliminate-violence-against-women\/","title":{"rendered":"NECC Co-Hosts Event to Eliminate Violence Against Women"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_19246\" style=\"width: 340px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2018\/11\/isa-best-copy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19246\" class=\"wp-image-19246\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2018\/11\/isa-best-copy-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"330\" height=\"220\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-19246\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Isa Woldeguiorguis, will be the guest speaker at the &#8220;international Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls&#8221; event at NECC.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\">Northern Essex Community College<\/a> in collaboration with the City of Lawrence, the Lawrence Police Department, the <a href=\"https:\/\/ywcanema.org\/\">YWCA Northeastern Massachusetts<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.delamanoma.org\/\">Delamano<\/a>, a Lawrence nonprofit committed to domestic violence intervention, will host \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\/news\/in-focus\/end-violence-against-women\">International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls,<\/a>\u201d on Thursday, Dec. 6, with guest speaker Isa Woldeguiorguis.<\/p>\n<p>The event, which is free and open to the public, begins at 6 p.m. in the Dr. Ibrahim El-Hefni Allied Heatlh &amp; Technology Center, 414 Common St., Lawrence.<\/p>\n<p>Woldeguiorguis is the executive director of The Center for Hope and Healing, Inc. \u00a0(CHH). CHH has served victims of rape and sexual assault, provided education and awareness raising to eradicate sexual violence in the greater Lowell area for 40 years. \u00a0Prior to this, she worked in the antiviolence field for 25 years, holding several statewide and national roles in the movement to end sexual and domestic violence. Woldeguiorguis is a well-respected leader and national trainer in the field.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals who work directly with survivors of domestic violence are encouraged to attend this event.<\/p>\n<p>This event is part of a national campaign launched by UNiTE to End Violence against Women. The theme this year is \u201cOrange the World: #HearMeToo.
