{"id":28127,"date":"2018-12-06T20:26:40","date_gmt":"2018-12-07T01:26:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/2018\/12\/07\/futurecpa\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T16:27:41","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T20:27:41","slug":"futurecpa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/2018\/12\/06\/futurecpa\/","title":{"rendered":"Future CPA has Strong Time Management Skills"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_19346\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2018\/12\/Carolyn-Greene.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19346\" class=\"wp-image-19346 size-medium\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2018\/12\/Carolyn-Greene-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Catherine Greene in the NECC student center\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-19346\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Catherine Greene, NECC Accounting major<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/learn\/credit-programs\/business\/accounting\/\">Accounting major<\/a> Catherine Greene of Plaistow, NH attends Northern Essex full time, works 25 to 60 hours a week, and is training for a May marathon in Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n<p>Still, she finds time for fun.\u00a0 \u201cHaving a social life is important to me.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t balance it all without time management skills,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>A 2012 graduate of Timberlane High School, Greene squeezes studying in whenever she finds a minute.\u00a0 She has also never taken a day class, signing up for evening and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/learn\/online-programs-courses\/\">online<\/a> courses, which better fit her schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever she is doing must be working, because she has an almost perfect 4.0 GPA, is a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/experience\/student-activities\/student-clubs-organizations\/\">Alpha Beta Gamma Business Honor Society<\/a>, and is the recent recipient of the Moore Family Scholarship, which supports women returning to school.<\/p>\n<p>Greene wasn\u2019t always a stellar student.\u00a0 She had a rocky year in high school and no one was more surprised than she when she was accepted to UMass Lowell.<\/p>\n<p>After three semesters of just barely getting by, she lost her financial aid, and ventured into the workforce.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, she discovered she had a love for numbers.\u00a0 \u201cWhile working in a position in a main office, I got experience with accounts receivables and bank reconciliations which only furthered my interest in accounting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Greene&#8217;s aunt, Linda Larson, is the owner of Larson Tax Service, Inc in Newton, NH and, after Greene proved herself by excelling in an online bookkeeping course, Linda hired her as a member of the team in 2017.\u00a0 Her aunt became her mentor and her most passionate cheerleader, encouraging Greene to\u00a0start back in college that fall.<\/p>\n<p>After earning her associate\u2019s in accounting in May, Greene plans to continue, eventually earning a master\u2019s in accounting and her CPA designation.<\/p>\n<p>Greene is an ambitious young woman and, while she regrets the time it took her to get to this point, she\u2019s philosophic.\u00a0 \u201cWe all mature, grow, and progress at different rates, and that\u2019s okay.\u00a0 I\u2019ve learned to never give up on my dreams and goals because no one else can accomplish them for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Northern Essex is enrolling now for the spring semester, which starts January 23.\u00a0 To learn more, visit the website, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/\">necc.mass.edu<\/a>, or contact enrollment services, <a href=\"mailto:admissions@necc.mass.edu\">admissions@necc.mass.edu<\/a> or 978 556-3700.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Accounting major Catherine Greene of Plaistow, NH attends Northern Essex full time, works 25 to 60 hours a week, and is training for a May marathon in Pittsburgh.
