{"id":28600,"date":"2017-09-21T20:28:26","date_gmt":"2017-09-22T00:28:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/2017\/09\/22\/tewksbury-woman-represent-students-necc-board-trustees\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T17:12:50","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T21:12:50","slug":"tewksbury-woman-represent-students-necc-board-trustees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/2017\/09\/21\/tewksbury-woman-represent-students-necc-board-trustees\/","title":{"rendered":"Tewksbury Woman to Represent Students on NECC Board of Trustees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2017\/09\/Hannah-Benning.jpg-cropped.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2017\/09\/Hannah-Benning.jpg-cropped.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-16501 size-medium\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2017\/09\/Hannah-Benning.jpg-cropped-227x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"227\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hannah Benning of Tewksbury, MA has been elected the student representative to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/\">Northern Essex Community College<\/a> Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/academics\/courses-programs\/areas\/art\/\">General Studies: Art<\/a> major, Benning is a 2015 graduate of Shawsheen Regional Technical High School.<\/p>\n<p>While at Northern Essex, she has played for the <a href=\"https:\/\/athletics.necc.mass.edu\/sports\/sball\/index\">softball team<\/a> and been active in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/academics\/enrichment\/student-senate\/\">student government<\/a>, serving as parliamentarian.<\/p>\n<p>After graduating from Northern Essex this coming spring, she plans to transfer to a four-year college or university and study graphic design.\u00a0 She is currently considering Lyndon State College of Vt, which has a bachelor\u2019s degree completion program on Northern Essex\u2019s Lawrence campus; Salem State University; and Mass College of Art.<\/p>\n<p>Her long term goal is to work as a graphic designer.<\/p>\n<p>Benning is interested in being a liaison between students and trustees.\u00a0 \u201cI want to help students, bringing their concerns to the board,\u201d she said.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m very excited about this opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NECC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/about\/trustees\/\">Board of Trustees<\/a> includes nine members who are appointed by the governor of the state to a maximum of two five-year terms as well as an alumni-elected member, who also serves a maximum of ten years, and a student trustee who serves for two semesters. Benning\u00a0will serve for 2017-2018.<\/p>\n<p>With campuses in Haverhill and Lawrence, Northern Essex Community College offers over 60 associate degree and certificate programs as well as hundreds of noncredit courses designed for personal enrichment and career growth.\u00a0 Nearly 6,000 students are enrolled in credit associate degree and certificate programs on the Haverhill and Lawrence campuses; and another 3,000 take noncredit workforce development and community education classes on campus and at the Opportunity Works building at 671 Kenoza St., located next to the Haverhill campus, and at businesses and community sites across the Merrimack Valley.
