{"id":28681,"date":"2017-11-08T18:45:15","date_gmt":"2017-11-08T23:45:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/2017\/11\/08\/necc-scholarship-recipients-announced\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T17:14:54","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T21:14:54","slug":"necc-scholarship-recipients-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/2017\/11\/08\/necc-scholarship-recipients-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"NECC Scholarship Recipients Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_16574\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2017\/10\/Scott-Bowman-newsroom.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16574\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-16574\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2017\/10\/Scott-Bowman-newsroom-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-16574\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Andover resident Scott Bowman was one of more than 200 NECC students to receive a scholarship for the 2017\/2018 academic year.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>More than 200 Northern Essex Community College\u00a0students, from over 30 area communities, were awarded approximately $200,000 in scholarships for the 2017\/2018 academic year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur students are deeply appreciative of the many generous individuals and organizations that make these scholarships possible,\u201d said Jean Poth, vice president of institutional advancement. \u201cFor many of our students, a scholarship is what allows them to stay in school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scholarships\u00a0range from $250 to $5,000 and come from a variety of sources, including private donors, memorial donations, local businesses, and private foundations.<\/p>\n<p>There were several new scholarships this year; the Kiwanis Club of Greater Lawrence Anthony J. Sakowich Scholarship, Kendall Smith Memorial Scholarship, Women of NECC Scholarship in Memory of Catherine Yameen, Women of NECC Scholarship in Memory of Ann Bride.<\/p>\n<p>The Kiwanis Club of Greater Lawrence Anthony J. Sakowich Scholarship honors the memory of Andover\u2019s Anthony J. Sakowich, a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Lawrence.<\/p>\n<p>The Kendall Smith Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of Kendall Smith, a longtime NECC Foundation, Inc. Board member and retired President of Pentucket Bank. \u201cHis volunteer time and charitable contributions benefited numerous charities throughout the Greater Haverhill Community.
