The first program is March 4.<\/p>\n<p>These talks are free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>One Geographic Region is a project developed by NECC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/academics\/enrichment\/study-abroad\/\">Office of International Studies<\/a> in conjunction with the NECC Library. Its intent is to promote learning across disciplines and borders. The First Friday lectures are a part of that larger project.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, March 4, NECC art professor Marc Mannheimer will discuss <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/blog\/2016\/02\/23\/islamic-art-first-fridays-at-necc\/\">Islamic art<\/a>. He will share images and discuss the destruction of some of that region\u2019s priceless artifacts.<\/p>\n<p>Northern Essex professor Patricia Machado will explore the principles of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/blog\/2016\/02\/23\/islamic-banking-first-fridays-at-necc\/\">Islamic banking<\/a> on Friday, April 1.<\/p>\n<p>Then on Friday, May 6, NECC Professor Mayra Bonet will share her research on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/blog\/2016\/02\/23\/the-veil-first-fridays-at-necc\/\">\u201cVeil\u201d<\/a> in Middle Eastern film, art, gender studies, and culture.<\/p>\n<p>Recognizing the importance of international study and travel in today\u2019s world, Northern Essex\u2019s study abroad program allows students to experience another language and culture while taking courses that fit into their curricula. Past programs have included studies in England, France, Ecuador, Spain, and others.
