{"id":29334,"date":"2016-12-16T14:40:06","date_gmt":"2016-12-16T19:40:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/2016\/12\/16\/communiversity-associates-to-bachelors-degree-at-necc\/"},"modified":"2026-05-18T16:04:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T20:04:13","slug":"communiversity-associates-to-bachelors-degree-at-necc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/2016\/12\/16\/communiversity-associates-to-bachelors-degree-at-necc\/","title":{"rendered":"Communiversity Associate to Bachelor\u2019s Degree at NECC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_14867\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2016\/12\/Communiversity_Regis.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14867\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14867\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2016\/12\/Communiversity_Regis-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-14867\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(L to R) NECC graduates Christopher Guard and Jennifer Nunez, who are seeking bachelor&#8217;s in nursing at Regis at NECC, NECC President Lane Glenn, Regis President Antoinette Hays, and Lawrence Mayor Dan Rivera.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Geography is often destiny when it comes to colleges and universities.<\/p>\n<p>Nationwide, most college students attend campuses 20 miles or less from their homes.\u00a0 And between the challenges of distance, transportation, living expenses, and the rising cost of many four-year universities, more students in the Merrimack Valley, and especially those in Lawrence, are finding it harder to get the education they need.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why NECC launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/bachelor\/bachelor-degree-completion-programs\/\">Communiversity partnerships <\/a>this past year on the Lawrence Campus, bringing new educational and professional initiatives to the city and area residents.<\/p>\n<p>Through programs offered by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/bachelor\/bachelor-degree-completion-programs\/\">Regis College,<\/a> a leading Catholic University outside of Boston, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/bachelor\/bachelor-degree-completion-programs\/\">Lyndon State College<\/a>, a public college located in Vermont, students who have earned an associate degree at NECC can now complete a bachelor\u2019s degree from a four year college and stay at Northern Essex while they do it.<\/p>\n<p>The two colleges formally celebrated the new partnerships with NECC at launching ceremonies held at Northern Essex&#8217;s El-Hefni Allied Health &amp; Technology Center in Lawrence.\u00a0 Last November, Regis announced students will be able to earn 100 percent of their credits toward a Regis bachelor\u2019s degree at the downtown Lawrence site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegis has a long track record of educating multicultural, first-generation students and sees great potential in the residents of Lawrence,\u201d said Regis President Antoinette M. Hays, PhD, RN.\u00a0 \u201cWe believe we can significantly contribute to the area\u2019s economy by improving the quality and skill of our healthcare workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the recent ceremony in September, for the collaboration with Lyndon State College, the first dual-state partnership to deliver bachelor\u2019s degree programming in Massachusetts, NECC graduate Jean Carlos Diaz of Lawrence explained that although an associate degree was an important checkpoint in his journey, he did not want to attend a four-year college and live far from home.\u00a0 As a student enrolled in Lyndon\u2019s Bachelor of Science degree program in Computer Information Science, Diaz said, \u201c I am experiencing an out of state college right in the town that I live in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about enrolling at Northern Essex for the fall, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/\">website<\/a> or contact Enrollment Services at, <a href=\"mailto:admissions@necc.mass.edu\">admissions@necc.mass.edu<\/a> or 978-556-3700.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Geography is often destiny when it comes to colleges and universities.
