English faculty member Lenny Cavallaro has been busy.<\/p><\/div>\n

Northern Essex Community College English faculty member Lenny Cavallaro has had a productive year on both the literary and musical fronts.\u00a0 He has written several interviews, a short story, and a novelette. Cavallaro also had a number of musical compositions published.<\/p>\n

Perhaps most exciting of all, according to Cavallaro, has been his conjectural \u201ccompletion\u201d of \u201cContrapunctus 14\u201d from Bach\u2019s unfinished masterpiece, \u201cThe Art of Fugue\u201d. \u00a0Simone Stella, the internationally renowned organist, recorded both that and Cavallaro\u2019s \u201cFugue in G Minor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Forton Music, a British publisher, released Cavallaro\u2019s \u201cFour Romances for Cor Anglais (English horn) and Piano, Op. 6\u201d and his \u201cSuite for Oboe, Cor Anglais, and Bassoon, Op. 7\u201d in late 2014, and then his \u201cSonata #2 in E Minor for Oboe and Clavier, Op. 8\u201d this summer.\u00a0 Recordings of these works, as well as the organ compositions, have all been posted on YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cavallaro says, \u201cIf I wish to teach English, I must continue to write.\u201d\u00a0 His interview with Pinchas Zukerman was published by \u201cStay Thirsty Magazine\u201d and made the\u00a0“Stories We Like” list of\u00a0\u201cClassical Voice North America\u201d\u00a0(the journal of the Music Critics Association of North America).\u00a0 He has also published a short story, \u201cBach\u2019s Last Composition:\u00a0 A Fantasy,\u201d a highly fictitious narrative loosely based on \u201cThe Art of Fugue\u201d.<\/p>\n

Cavallaro\u2019s last effort of the summer was a novella about the mysterious death of former world chess champion, Alexander Alekhine titled \u201cSherlock Holmes and the Murder of Alekhine\u201d. It is is available in digital format on Amazon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cavallaro earned his Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) degree from West Virginia University, and has served on the music faculty of several colleges.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
