{"id":30420,"date":"2013-03-26T17:41:48","date_gmt":"2013-03-26T21:41:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/2013\/03\/26\/two-necc-students-nominated-for-scholarship\/"},"modified":"2026-05-18T17:07:27","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T21:07:27","slug":"two-necc-students-nominated-for-scholarship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/2013\/03\/26\/two-necc-students-nominated-for-scholarship\/","title":{"rendered":"Two NECC Students Nominated for Scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_5743\" style=\"width: 335px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2013\/03\/davidbowie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5743\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5743\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/media-old\/2013\/03\/davidbowie.jpg\" alt=\"Two NECC Students Nominated for Scholarship\" width=\"325\" height=\"217\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5743\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">David Bowie <\/p><\/div>\n<p>Two Northern Essex Community College students, David Bowie of Plaistow, NH and Dana Haggar of Haverhill were recently nominated for the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>A 2007 graduate of Timberlane Regional High School, Bowie is an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/academics\/courses-programs\/areas\/technology-engineering\/engineering-science\/\">Engineering Science<\/a> major at NECC. After graduation this spring, Bowie plans on transferring to UMass Lowell, where he will major in Environmental Sciences. At NECC, Bowie is the president of the Bacon Board Gamers, a student board gaming club, and a member of the Board Game Library, which lends games to the community. He also has been published in the school\u2019s literary magazine, Parnassus and is a math tutor at the college\u2019s math center.<\/p>\n<p>Haggar will graduate with an associate degree in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necc.mass.edu\/academics\/courses-programs\/areas\/deaf-studies\/interpreter-transfer\/\">Deaf Studies: Sign Language Interpreting<\/a> in May 2013. She plans to transfer to Framingham State College and earn her bachelor\u2019s degree after graduation. She is a student ambassador and a member of the NECC Student Leadership Development Program, the Student Senate, and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Haggar is also the student-elected member of the college\u2019s board of trustees.<\/p>\n<p>The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship is for outstanding students who will be transferring from NECC, have a cumulative GPA of 3.5, and have done significant community service.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two Northern Essex Community College students, David Bowie of Plaistow, NH and Dana Haggar of Haverhill were recently nominated for the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship.
