NECC introduces new computer security certificate<\/p><\/div>A new one-year certificate program at Northern Essex Community College will prepare students for positions in the fast-growing data security field.<\/p>\n

Students in the computer security certificate program will be prepared to assess a company\u2019s risk, document security procedures, implement security procedures, and check for security breaches in an organization\u2019s system.<\/p>\n

The program starts this fall and is designed for individuals with previous college-level experience or work experience in information technology (IT) who wish to upgrade their computer skills in security technologies.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are currently too few professionals to fill the positions available in this field,\u201d said Russ Gouveia, computer science professor at Northern Essex. \u201cWe created this program at the request of our computer science advisory board members, who are all working in the field, and interested in hiring people with these skills.\u201d<\/p>\n

The curriculum consists of six computer-related courses as well as English Comp I.<\/p>\n

Northern Essex offers computer & information sciences associate degrees in applications, computer science transfer, and information technology as well as certificates in computer applications, computer forensics, computer networking, computer security, help desk, information technology fluency, and web design.
