In fact, his career started in a completely different field.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy career path is a little interesting,\u201d he says. \u201cI started in software engineering then moved into different levels of Human Resources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That transition\u2014from technology to people strategy\u2014gives Keleher a unique perspective in the classroom. Having worked in technical environments and later in leadership roles within HR, he understands how organizations function from multi<a href=\"https:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/03\/CCCEKevin1-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-29850 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/necc.edu\/newsroom2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2026\/03\/CCCEKevin1-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"photo of NECC instructor Kevin Keleher. he sits in a chair in a dimly lit room with a white background. the photo is taken from the waist up\" width=\"299\" height=\"459\" \/><\/a>ple angles. It\u2019s an experience that helps him connect the dots for students preparing to enter or advance within the field.<\/p>\n<p>But teaching, in many ways, was always part of the plan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI come from a family of educators,\u201d Keleher explains. \u201cMy father was a teacher, my wife was a teacher, my daughter is a teacher.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He has followed that tradition throughout his career. Earlier in his teaching journey, Keleher taught computer science at Hawthorne College, bringing his technical expertise into the classroom. Today, he is applying that same passion for education to prepare the next generation of HR professionals in his first semester as an NECC instructor.<\/p>\n<p>At the heart of his teaching philosophy is a simple idea: organizations succeed because of people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery organization is a people\u2019s system,\u201d Keleher says. \u201cYou can have the greatest technology, you can have the greatest services, you can have the greatest products. Without the people to make that happen, a company\u2019s not going to be successful. So we specialize in the people side of the organization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That perspective is increasingly relevant in today\u2019s workplace. As businesses evolve and workforce expectations shift, HR professionals play a larger role in shaping strategy, culture, and long-term success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great time to get into HR,\u201d Keleher says. \u201cIt\u2019s is not just administrative anymore\u2014it\u2019s more strategic. It\u2019s a great opportunity to make some big impacts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Keleher\u2019s certificate program reflects that modern approach to the profession. The curriculum is structured around three key modules designed to guide students through the essential elements of HR work.<\/p>\n<p>The first module, HR Foundations, introduces the core principles and responsibilities of the profession. From there, students move into The Talent Lifecycle, where they explore the processes that shape the employee experience\u2014from recruiting and onboarding to development and retention. The program concludes with Developing a Culture, examining how organizations build environments that support employees and drive success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of our experiences are a little different and we end up learning from each other,\u201d Keleher says.<\/p>\n<p>The structure encourages conversation and collaboration among students, many of whom bring their own workplace experiences into the classroom. Keleher sees this exchange as a key part of the learning process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way I\u2019ve always run class is supportive,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have to support each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That supportive environment reflects his broader vision for the program. Keleher isn\u2019t just focused on teaching HR concepts. He wants to help shape the future of the profession.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am not the future of HR\u2014 but I want to help build that future,\u201d he says. \u201cAnd that\u2019s what this program is about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, the work of HR professionals touches every part of an organization.
