Food Assistance for NECC Students

Food insecurity is a common challenge for college students in Massachusetts and across the country. Northern Essex Community College cares about its students and knows hunger can impact academic success. We have several initiatives aimed to help.

Food Vouchers

Food Voucher Distribution (Haverhill)
Starting Wednesday, January 28 (12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.) and Thursday, January 29 (9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.), food vouchers will be distributed on the second and fourth Wednesday and Thursday of each month throughout the spring semester.

Students may receive two (2) food vouchers per distribution at the Welcome Express in Haverhill.

Current registered students are eligible to receive $10 food vouchers that can be used on the Haverhill Campus to buy food in Spurk Building Cafe, NECC Campus Store (Haverhill Campus SC, 2nd floor) and UTEC Food Truck.  For more information about this program please email Allison Gouveia at agouveia@necc.mass.edu

Food Pantry

NECC has a food pantry on the Lawrence campus, available to all current students at no cost.

Food Pantry Hours (Lawrence)
Beginning Monday, January 26, the food pantry in Lawrence will offer drop-in hours and will no longer be appointment-only. The new hours are as follows:

·         Monday: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

·         Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

SNAP Benefits

Many students who qualify for financial aid also qualify for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). If you are interested in seeing if you qualify and/or to apply, please visit Mass Department of Transitional Assistance for MA residents and for NH residents, please visit New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services.
