About NECC Public Safety

The Northern Essex Community College Public Safety Department is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for students, employees, and visitors. As a hybrid department of sworn officers and contract security personnel, NECC Public Safety provides 24-hour coverage, seven days a week. The department responds to emergencies and accidents, patrols college property, investigates reported crimes and concerning activity, and works with departments throughout the college to address safety and security concerns.

In-person reporting is also available at either Public Safety Office:

• Lawrence Campus: El-Hefni Building, first-floor lobby, 414 Common Street

If you call 911 from an NECC location, contact NECC Public Safety as soon as it is safe to do so. This allows Public Safety to respond to the appropriate location and assist local emergency responders.

Anonymous Reporting

If you would prefer to report possible illegal activity anonymously, NECC provides an online Anonymous Report Form. You may choose to remain completely anonymous or provide contact information if you would like Public Safety to be able to follow up with you.

The form is not monitored 24/7 and should not be used for emergencies. In an emergency, call 911.

Safety Services & Preparedness

Public Safety Escort

NECC Public Safety offers escorts to and from vehicles, classrooms, and offices. To request an escort, call 978-556-3333 (x3333 from a campus phone) or text 978-476-9333. An Officer or Guard will respond as soon as possible; however, high-priority calls may delay the response. If there is a delay, remain in a secure location until Public Safety arrives.

Emergency Preparedness & Safety Education

Education and preparation are important parts of campus safety at NECC. Throughout the year, Public Safety provides information and training to help students and employees recognize safety concerns, know what to do during an emergency, and learn about available campus resources.

Community Partnerships

NECC Public Safety works closely with the Haverhill and Lawrence Police and Fire Departments and the Massachusetts State Police when additional help or emergency response is needed. These partnerships help make sure the NECC community has access to the public safety resources it needs.

Clery Act & Campus Security Information

The Clery Act is a federal law that helps students, employees, and the public understand crime and safety on college campuses. NECC’s Clery Report & Information explains how to report a crime or safety concern, how the college shares emergency alerts and safety warnings, and what resources are available to help keep our community safe and support victims and survivors. It also includes NECC’s Annual Security Report, which provides campus crime statistics and information about the college’s safety policies and programs.
